Why Social Emotional Learning Matters
Students Need More Than Academic Skills
Reading, writing, and math are important, but students also need skills like communication, empathy, self-awareness, and problem-solving. SEL helps students develop the tools they need to navigate both school and life successfully.
Strong Relationships Improve Learning
When students feel connected to their classmates and teacher, they're often more willing to participate, take risks, and engage in learning. A positive classroom culture can have a powerful impact on academic success.
SEL Supports Classroom Management
Many common classroom challenges stem from social-emotional skill deficits. Teaching skills like responsibility, conflict resolution, self-control, and communication can help reduce disruptions and improve classroom behavior.
Morning Meetings Create Consistency
Starting each day with connection and conversation helps students feel seen, valued, and prepared for learning. These daily routines can quickly become one of the most meaningful parts of the school day.
Why You’ll Love These Daily SEL Morning Meetings
They Build Classroom Community
Morning meetings help students get to know one another, strengthen relationships, and develop trust within the classroom. Over time, these daily interactions create a stronger sense of belonging.
Students Learn Life Skills
Topics like empathy, perseverance, leadership, responsibility, confidence, and communication give students practical skills they can use both inside and outside the classroom.
They Encourage Student Voice
The sharing activities provide opportunities for students to express their thoughts, experiences, and perspectives in a safe and supportive environment.
They Create Meaningful Conversations
Many teachers find that some of the best classroom discussions happen during morning meetings. Students often make connections that lead to deeper conversations throughout the day.
No Daily Planning Required
Perhaps the biggest benefit of all? Everything is already created for you. Simply open the slides and begin.

Teacher Tips for Successful Morning Meetings
Sit in a Circle
Whenever possible, arrange students in a circle so everyone feels included and can see one another. This simple setup helps create a stronger sense of community.
Participate Alongside Students
Students are more likely to engage when they see their teacher actively participating. Share your own responses, greet students by name, and model respectful listening.
Use a Talking Piece
Passing a small object around the circle helps students understand whose turn it is to speak while encouraging active listening.
Don't Force Sharing
Some students may need time to feel comfortable participating. Allow students the option to pass when necessary while continuing to encourage involvement over time.
Personalize the Message Slides
One of the easiest ways to make morning meetings even more meaningful is by customizing the daily message. Celebrate birthdays, recognize accomplishments, discuss upcoming events, or address classroom needs.

7 editable slides (PER WEEK)
Enough Greeting, Activity, Share, and Message slides for 44 weeks. Some of the slides are labeled by week, and some are not, so you don't necessarily have to follow the order laid out.
How to Use:
Every student get in a circle. It’s important that every student is on the same level, so either they are ALL on the floor, are ALL standing, or are ALL in chairs. This includes the teacher, too!
Show the students the theme of the week and discuss what it means.
Display the Greeting slide at the beginning of your Morning Meeting. Read the directions, give an example, and have your students greet each other. It’s important that each student is greeted by NAME.
Move on to the Share slide and complete what is written or write your own with the editable slide. You will need a talking piece to pass along as each student shares, such as a ball or stuffed animal. If a student is adamant about not sharing, they can say, “Pass.” Do not push.
Move on to the Activity slide. Some activities can be continued on to the next day. It will either be a game or an SEL activity. Every student should do the activity - no opting out.
Lastly, move to the Message slide. I highly encourage you to use the editable slides to type a message that pertains to your students. Meaning, you can write about upcoming events in their schedule, birthday celebrations, a change in plan/routine, etc.
