Make Valentine’s Day Meaningful With These Black History Month Valentine Activities

Last year, I was thinking to myself, “Why not make my Valentine’s Day resources more meaningful and comprehensive by incorporating Black History Month into them?” So, that’s what I did! While I do have many other Black History Month resources that aren’t Valentine’s Day-themed, the ones I made explicitly for Valentine’s Day are by far my favorite. Each of the three activities I have (so far—I’m planning on adding to the collection as time goes on) serves a different classroom need, making it easy to mix, match, or use all three together.

Keep reading to learn more about these resources, and stick around to grab these for your own classroom or homeschool learning space!

#1: Black History Month Valentine Bulletin Board Printable for the Classroom

First, we have this bulletin board printable! I added it this year (2026) and I think it’s sooo cute! There are MANY ways you can incorporate this into your classroom or homeschool space, such as:

  • Black History Month Bulletin Board Display: Create a vibrant February bulletin board featuring all 37 candy heart figures to celebrate influential Black leaders in a fun, Valentine’s Day–themed way.

  • Student-Created Black History Month Door Decor: Have students color and contribute their own candy hearts to design a collaborative Black History Month classroom or hallway door.

  • Person of the Day Activity: Highlight one historical figure each day by displaying a new candy heart and discussing their contributions.

  • Black History Month Flip-Book Project: Use the lined candy heart templates to create a flip-book where students write facts, reflections, or responses about each figure.

  • Valentine’s Day Writing Activity: Pair the lined hearts with writing prompts focused on kindness, impact, or legacy for a meaningful Valentine’s Day lesson.

  • Hallway or School-Wide Display: Turn student work into a school-wide showcase that celebrates Black History Month beyond the classroom.

  • Early Finisher or Center Activity: Add the black-and-white hearts to February centers or early finisher bins for low-prep, independent work.

  • Interactive Bulletin Board: Create a bulletin board where students add new candy hearts as they learn about each figure throughout the month.

  • Homeschool Daily History Activity: Complete one heart per day as part of a simple, hands-on Black History Month homeschool routine.

  • Class Keepsake or Portfolio Piece: Have students save their completed hearts in a binder or portfolio as a meaningful Black History Month keepsake.
