Free Valentine’s Day & Black History Month Printable: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Conversation Candy Heart
It’s the beginning of February, so it’s time for my monthly freebie!
My original intention for this website was to give out monthly freebies but I may or may not have dropped the ball. (I did.) But alas, I’m back at it again and I’m determined to be a better website-keeper-upper!
This month’s freebie comes straight from a resource I created earlier this year for Valentine’s Day and Black History Month—and honestly, it’s one of my favorites. It’s simple, meaningful, and (dare I say) works beautifully in just about any classroom or homeschool space. Use it as a festive February decoration, a student craft, or a quick learning project that actually sparks good conversations.
It’s a Black History Candy Heart!
This freebie features Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., so you can even use it for MLK Jr. day!
I mean, c’mon… look at how cute it is!

Why You Need This in Your Life:
I don’t know if you’ll need convincing (it is free, after all), but here are a few reasons why this resource is totally awesome and you need it in your life, whether you teach in a homeschool or traditional school setting!
Valentine’s Day With Purpose. It keeps the fun, heart-themed vibe students love—while tying in meaningful conversations about kindness, fairness, and empathy. I made another blog post earlier about a few more Valentine’s Day/Black History Month resources, which you can find by clicking here.
Perfect for Black History Month. A simple, age-appropriate way to introduce MLK Jr. and big ideas without overwhelming students (or you).
Low-Prep, High-Impact. Print, copy, and go. No complicated directions, no extra materials, and no late-night prep sessions required.
Works Anywhere. Great for public school classrooms, homeschool days, small groups, or even family discussions around the table.
Low-Prep Ideas for Using This February Printable:
Below are a few ideas to get you started thinking about how you can use this resource in your learning space!
A Bulletin Board or Display. Your kiddos can color the black and white version and you can display that as-is, or they can write on the lined paper to make it more academic! There is no prompt on the lined heart, so the sky is the limit when it comes to what you want them to write.
Morning Work That Doesn’t Feel Like Work. Set this flipbook out as students walk in and let them ease into the day with a little reading, thinking, and reflecting. Calm kids + thoughtful vibes = a win before the chaos starts.
A Valentine’s Day Activity With Actual Meaning. Skip the sugar overload and use this as a Valentine’s Day activity that focuses on kindness, love, and big-hearted ideas—no candy swaps required (and no glitter clean-up 👏).
Tiny Black History Month Lesson, Big Impact. Pair the flipbook with a quick read-aloud or short video about MLK Jr. One page, one message, one meaningful conversation—simple and powerful.
Independent Work or “I’m Done…Now What?” Time. Early finishers? Quiet time? Homeschool independent work block? This resource is easy to grab, easy to use, and keeps students meaningfully busy.
The Larger Resource
As I said earlier, this February Freebie is a part of a larger resource, where you will get 37 Black History Month figures! It’s perfect for a full classroom display, student research projects, and more! Put them on your doors, on a bulletin board, hang them on string to make a garland—whatever your heart desires.
And, with 37 people to choose from, each student can get a different person, providing an opportunity for your kiddos to learn from each other.
You can download this directly from my website, or the just colorful option from Teachers Pay Teachers—whichever is more convenient for you.
The Freebie You’ll Get by Purchasing Through my Website!
Just wanted to say if you download anything directly through my website, you will automatically receive a FREE download of my YEAR LONG daily slide bundle as a way to say thank you for supporting my small business!
It’s a $36 value! 😱 An offer you can’t pass up, if I do say so myself. 😉
